On January 14, 1998 Father Joe was transferred
from St. Mary's after twelve years.He left for for Rome, Italy on January 28,
1998 to study at the Pontifical North AmericanCollege, and attend the Institute for Continuing
Theological Education at the Vatican City State. This time is called a Sabbatical - a time
of study, spiritual renewal, rest and recreation. Father Joe also visited the Czech Republic and
returned to the U.S.A. on May 28, 1998. He then spent time with family and relatives until receiving
new assignment in the Diocese of Victoria.
Fr. Joe returned to the U.S.A. as of May
29th, 1998. On July 29th, 1998 he was assigned as permanent pastor at Assumption
Parish in Ganado, Texas.
