A Matter of Good Breeding

We use selective breeding to grow better cattle, horses, dogs, and roses. Why not do the same for human beings? People called eugenicists (Greek for wellborn) think we should. They ask, "What farmer would breed his worst animals?" So, eugenicists recommend, among other things, forced sterilization of people who belong to "degenerate groups." The targets of the sterilization are those of low grade and defective stock whose undesirable traits are presumably inheritable by their offspring. These include "feeblemindedness," a term that encompassed idiots, imbeciles, morons, the insane, convicted criminals, alcoholics and drug addicts, welfare recipients, and, in some former state laws, the blind and the deaf. They compare such persons to cancer cells that must be excised so that they will not destroy the host society.

It never occurs to these elites to ask who appointed them as guardians of humanity’s genes. How do they know that some if not most of the conditions for which they yearn to sterilize people are due more to nurture than to nature for which sterilization would not be a cure? Is a psychosis inheritable? Inability to answer those questions has not deterred them from using the sterilizing knife. Can they control the world’s gene pool and should they? It has been estimated that if all the feebleminded persons were sterilized it would take ten centuries to lower the incidence of feeblemindedness from one per 1,000 to one per 10,000. Meanwhile sane people produce feebleminded offspring.

From its inception eugenics has been a racist movement concerned with the control of classes considered socially inferior. It is chic racism for liberals. Francis Galton who coined the word "eugenics" believed that Black people were entirely inferior to the white races and that Jews were capable only of "parasitism" upon the civilized nations. Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood, implemented the "Negro Project" in 1939 to eliminate those she called "human weeds."

Many think that the eugenics movement died because it was so thoroughly discredited by the Nazi racial cleansing programs practiced in the name of eugenics. It is not widely known that America was the inspiration for the Nazi eugenic laws that were modeled on ones that had been passed under inspiration of eugenicists in twenty states of the United States before 1930. Many leaders of the American eugenics movement endorsed the Nazi program. For example, Frederick Osborn, secretary of the American Eugenics Society remarked in 1937, "The German sterilization program is apparently an excellent one." The eugenics movement did not die of the Nazi embarrassment but, much like HIV, mutated and continued to cause damage.

The name eugenics became so poisonous that Osborn, a master propagandist, stated, "Eugenic goals are most likely to be attained under a name other than eugenics." It still remains the driving force in sterilization promotion, euthanasia, contraception, abortion, artificial insemination, environmental extremism, genetic engineering, restrictive immigration laws, and coercive population policies.

Due to space limitations I will limit my discussion of the covert operations of eugenicists to two areas: contraception and abortion. Another day perhaps I can discuss the devastation eugenicists have caused in coercive population control in the Third World using as a pretext their mythical population explosion.

Planned Parenthood is one of the tools whereby eugenicists try to purify the race. It was a major success for the eugenics movement out of which it grew. When the International Planned Parenthood Federation was founded in 1955 it was housed in the offices of the Eugenics Society. Osborn said that people would not accept the idea that they are, in general, second rate. He promoted "a system of voluntary unconscious selection." To persuade people to use birth control to minimize the reproduction of second rate humans he suggested an appeal to wanted children who "will get affectionate and responsible care." Havelock Ellis wrote, "All those who are deeply concerned in the great problem of Eugenic progress assume, as a matter of course, that the only practical instrument by which Eugenics can work is Birth Control."

The great obstacle to the race purifiers was the Catholic Church. It condemned contraception as a direct attack on the sources of life just as homicide is a direct attack on human life itself. It recognized that any justification of contraception necessarily undermined traditional sexual morality because contraception can be justified only on the grounds that purely recreational sex is morally acceptable. Eugenicists decided to bring the issue of birth control to Catholic women directly and avoid arguing with Church authorities. They made their case so successfully that population controllers could boast that they had "pretty well won the battle with the old men in the Vatican." They were right to crow in the light of surveys that say 90% of Catholics contracept. Catholics who rebel against the Church’s teaching on contraception are not only sinning but are unaware how they are playing into the hands of the eugenicists.

A second successful area for eugenicists is abortion. Abortion is racism in its ugliest form. Abortionists have eliminated more African American children than the Ku Klux Klan ever did. From 1973 to 1992 more than 9,000,000 abortions were performed on black women. Two out of every three minority babies are aborted and that is good for the eugenicist goal of eliminating inferior stock. Abortion was sold by identifying the "right to choose" as the most fundamental right. That is a lie. The most fundamental right of a human being is the right to life. Without it all other rights are moot.

The eugenicist propaganda for abortion has been enormously effective. It must bring tears of joy to eugenicist propagandists when they see women marching and chanting about their right to kill their babies. Eugenicists need not resort to coercion as they do in countries seeking American foreign aid but can rely on the "voluntary unconscious selection" of American women themselves. The women would go to war if abortion were compulsory as it is for second births in China. But they voluntarily assist the eugenicists in their effort to purify the gene pool and resist all efforts to be deprived of the choice.

The eugenicists think that in promoting abortion they are improving humanity. But according to their standards Mozart, Beethoven, and Tolstoy should have been aborted because of the faulty traits of their parents. There is an African proverb: "No one knows whose womb holds the chief."

This ugly movement has, sometimes with force when eugenicists could wield it, deprived groups it has tagged as inferior of the joys of parenthood and brought death to the progeny of many who are parents. The world will be grateful to those who can make gene corrections to prevent handicaps in future generations, but there are no thanks for the practitioners of the pseudo science of eugenics that only cuts and kills to prevent reproduction of persons who have "lives not worthy to be lived."

Why are only arrogant eugenicists permitted to select criteria that preclude reproduction? If there were any validity to their pseudo science maybe we should sterilize eugenicists. That would prevent them from reproducing and passing their obnoxious culture of death to their progeny. Now that would really improve humanity.
